Calgary Parking Low Income Market Permit

To get this benefit you need to first apply for the following benefit(s) if you're eligible:

This program provides a lower cost Market Parking Permit for low-income Calgarians who live in large buildings. Buildings must be four stories or more in height or with more than 20 dwelling units located in a Residential Parking Zone in Calgary.

You cannot get a Low-Income Market Permit if you have a Residential Parking Permit that is still valid. Only one permit is allowed per address. There are no guarantees that a space will be available.

Please note that this program automatically renews until cancellation or until the last day of the month that Fair Entry approval status expires. Monthly permits are charged $2.50/month + GST on the first day of every month.

Once the application is approved, the permit will become active on the first day of the following month if payment is successful. Please contact Calgary Parking at (403) 537-7000 for more information.

Note: To apply for a Low-Income Market permit, you must first have approval for the Fair Entry program.

To qualify for this program you must be approved for the Fair Entry Program:

  1. Live in Calgary, Alberta
  2. Show proof of income by providing one of the following:

A) Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment

B) Income documents from one of the following sources:

  • Assured Income for Severely Handicapped benefits (AISH)
  • Alberta Works: Income Support
  • Foundational Learning Assistance (formerly Alberta Works Learners)
  • Alberta Works - Alberta Health Benefit
  • Resettlement Assistance Program

C) If you do not have any of the above options, you may use one of the following:

  • Letter from Registered Social Worker
  • Letter for Independent Youth

Please note that if you are using CRA Notice of Assessment, you will need to provide an income proof for each family member related by blood, marriage, adoption or common-law who is 18 years or older living at the same Calgary address.

You need to provide documents before applying to a Fair Entry program. Please see the information required when submitting your application:

Residency Documents- You can provide ONE of the following documents to prove you live in Calgary:

  • A copy of your Alberta Driver's License or Alberta Government Identification Card
  • Utility, telephone or cable bill dated within the last 30 days.
  • Any government document with your name and current address dated within the last 30 days.
  • Signed lease agreements.

Income Documents - Any ONE of the following income proofs are the best way to apply:

  • Assured Income for Severely Handicapped benefits (AISH)
  • Alberta Works: Income Support
  • Foundational Learning Assistance (formerly Alberta Works Learners)
  • Alberta Works - Alberta Health Benefit
  • Resettlement Assistance Program

Or you can also provide the following:

  • Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment

If you do not have any of the above options, you may use one of the following:

Additional documentation may be required by Calgary Parking if you are a Student, drive a Company Vehicle, have a Shared Family Vehicle, are a Dual Resident or have your vehicle registered to a P.O. Box. More information can be found at https://www.calgaryparking.com/permits/market-permit.html.

In order to access the Calgary Parking Low Income Market Permit, applicants must be approved by the Fair Entry program.

The registered vehicle owner must be included on the Fair Entry application form. Please note that only one permit per home is permitted.

You must complete a Calgary Parking Market Permit application after your Fair Entry approval to obtain a reduced parking permit rate. Once the application is approved, the permit will become active on the first day of the following month if payment is successful.
