No Cost Spay/Neuter Program

The No Cost Spay/Neuter Program provides free spay and neuter surgery for companion cats of eligible individuals with low income in Calgary.

The program provides the following services free of charge to eligible Calgarians who have companion cats:

  • Spay or neuter surgery for cats.
  • Post operative painkillers.
  • A microchip.
  • Post-operative medication (at the discretion of the Clinic veterinarian).
  • An Elizabethan collar (at the discretion of the Clinic veterinarian).

To qualify for this program the applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and be a resident of the city of Calgary.
  • You must own the cat at the time of the application.
  • The cat must be licensed at the time of your application through The City of Calgary.
  • The licence must be in the applicant’s name.
  • The cat must be healthy, Female cats in heat and pregnant cats can be spayed. We recommend that the animal is vaccinated by a veterinarian at least two weeks before surgery.

Applicants must be referred through The City’s Fair Entry Program and may only apply for the program once every 12 months.

Please note that this program is not available for breeders.

You need to provide documents before applying to a Fair Entry program. This is the information required when submitting your application:

Residency Documents- You can provide ONE of the following documents to prove you live in Calgary:

  • A copy of your Alberta Driver's License or Alberta Government Identification Card
  • Utility, telephone or cable bill dated within the last 30 days.
  • Any government document with your name and current address dated within the last 30 days.
  • Signed lease agreements.

Income Documents - Any ONE of the following income proofs are the best way to apply:

  • Assured Income for Severely Handicapped benefits (AISH)
  • Alberta Works: Income Support
  • Foundational Learning Assistance (formerly Alberta Works Learners)
  • Alberta Works - Alberta Health Benefit
  • Resettlement Assistance Program

Or you can also provide the following:

  • Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment

If you do not have any of the above options, you may use one of the following:

  • Letter from a Registered Social Worker
  • Letter for Independent Youth

Note: If you are using the Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment or applying for any of the following programs below, you will need to provide an income proof for EACH family member related by blood, marriage, adoption or common-law who is 18 years or older living at the same Calgary address.

In order to access the No Cost Spay/Neuter Program, applicants must be approved by the Fair Entry program.
