Ride Transit Program

The Ride Transit Program provides eligible individuals with reduced transit options in the City of Edmonton. With a Ride Transit profile, participants enjoy pay-per-use transit options with a reduced ARC card.

Depending on the eligibility, participants will receive a reduced ARC card with a monthly transit fare cap at $36 or $51.

Once the daily ($10.25) or monthly fare ($36 or $51) limits have been reached, participants can ride Edmonton transit for free for the rest of that day or month.

All applicants must be residents of the City of Edmonton and meet the following qualifications:

  • Recipient of Government of Alberta Income Support or Foundational Learning Assistance
  • New Permanent Resident who arrived in Canada within the past year
  • Refugee with Protection Claimant document issued within the past year
  • Recipient of CPP – Disability Benefit
  • Child under Government Care
  • Recipient of Employment Insurance (EI)
  • 2024 combined household income equal to or below allowable thresholds

A household is defined as:

  • Up to two total adult spouses/partners, and
  • Their legal dependants aged 17 and younger

Proof of  residency in Province/ Territory

Notice of Assessment

A statement from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to each taxpayer, every year, after you have filed a tax return. It tells you the amount of income tax you owe, or the amount of the refund you will get.

Proof of residency in Canada

A document that displays your name and current home address and confirms that your primary place of residence is in the province or territory that is providing the benefit. For example:

  • Driver's license
  • Mortgage, rental or lease agreement
  • Child Tax Benefit Statement
  • Employer record (pay stub or letter from employer on company letterhead)
  • Income tax assessment (most recent)
  • Insurance policy (home, tenant, auto or life)
  • Monthly mailed bank account statements for savings or chequing accounts (does not include receipts, bank books, letters or automated teller receipts)
  • Mortgage, rental or lease agreement
  • Motor Vehicle Permit (plate or vehicle portions)
  • Property tax bill
  • School, college or university report card or transcript
  • Statement of Direct Deposit for social assistance or income assistance in your province or territory (for example, Disability Assistance, Hardship Assistance, Income Support, Assured Incoome, Social Solidarity, etc.)
  • Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E
  • Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS) or Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P)
  • Statement of Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF), or Registered Home Ownership Savings Plan (RHOSP) from a financial institution (bank, trust company, credit union)
  • Utility bill received by mail (home telephone, cable TV, public utilities commission, hydro, gas, water)
  • Valid Provincial or Territorial Driver's Licence
  • Temporary Driver's Licence (you must also show a photo license card with the same address)
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007
  • Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contribution
  • Valid Photo Identification

Individuals who have applied for Leisure Access Program (LAP) are automatically considered for the Ride Transit Program. The two programs share one joint application process.

Conditional approval of the Ride Transit Program is only offered at the Edmonton Service Centre. Conditional approvals are offered only at the time of completed application submission.

Please note that your Leisure Access membership card or government-issued photo ID is required to purchase a reduced rate Arc card of $36 or $51 and your recreation membership card is the best ID to use.

Eligible participants can receive a free ARC card and the Ride Transit Program information package by pick up at the Edmonton Service Centre (10111 104 Avenue NW, 2nd Floor) or by submitting an Arc for Ride Transit: Mail Opt-in Form.
