Identification Supplement

Easy application

Tax filing not required

The Identification Supplement may be issued to any person in a family unit getting income assistance, disability assistance, or hardship assistance who needs identification to be eligible for income or disability assistance or to access services in British Columbia.

Note: If you have a confirmed job that needs a driver’s license or other piece of identification (ID) in order to start the job, you may be eligible for a confirmed job supplement to help with getting the ID. If you need ID to apply for a job or seek employment, you are eligible for an ID Supplement.

You may be able to get this support if you or your family are getting income assistance, disability assistance, or hardship assistance and you need identification to:

  • Be eligible for income or disability assistance
  • Access services in British Columbia or for a similar purpose in British Columbia (for example community participation or for job/school applications).

Eligibility for supplements is generally determined through talking with staff of the Ministry Social Development and Poverty Reduction.

To get this benefit, meet with your Employment and Assistance Worker (EAW) who will review your eligibility, and give you the forms you need to fill out and process your request.

If you are deemed ineligible for the Identification Supplement, your EAW will explain the reason(s) for this and clearly explain the options available, including information on the reconsideration process.
