Red Cross Equipment Loan Programs

Red Cross Equipment Loan Programs give free basic equipment to help you with daily activities like walking or showering. They also loan free specialized equipment to help you keep safe at home.

The equipment is on loan for as long as you need it.

PROGRAM UPDATE:

The Department of Social Development has launched a new basic home health and mobility equipment program, Community Aids for Independent Living New Brunswick (CAIL-NB). The new program will be operated by Tango Medical, a provider of home medical and rehabilitation equipment and services.

As a result, all Canadian Red Cross offices in New Brunswick will remain operational and open to the public Monday to Friday (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) until Friday, June 26, 2026.

Effective Monday, June 29, 2026, Red Cross equipment and donations will ONLY be accepted for return at the Moncton and Saint John warehouse locations. Business hours at these two locations will remain the same, Mondays to Fridays (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m).

Anyone who needs healthcare equipment to be safer at home is eligible for the Healthcare Equipment Loan Program.

The Senior Rehabilitative Equipment Program is for people 65 and older who need specialized equipment to help them maintain their independence.

You are not able to get these programs if you have a Department of Social Development health card. Social Development has another program to help with your equipment needs.

For the Healthcare Equipment Loan Program:

  • You will need a written referral from an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, doctor, nurse practitioner or extra-mural nurse. They will decide the best equipment for your needs, then fax a referral to your local Canadian Red Cross location.
  • Your local Red Cross office will contact you to make an appointment to pick up the equipment (if it is available).

For the Senior Rehabilitative Equipment Program:

  • You will need a written referral from an occupational therapist or physiotherapist. They will decide what equipment you need, fill out the program form, and send it to the Saint John office of the Canadian Red Cross.
  • The Red Cross will work with you and your therapist to have the equipment delivered to your home.

Please remember, you will need to return the equipment to the Red Cross when you’re done with it.
