Rural and Indigenous housing program

Easy application

Tax filing not required

The Rural and Indigenous housing program helps off-reserve native and non-native households in need get affordable, adequate and suitable rental housing in rural communities (with a population of less than 2,500 residents).

If you qualify, you can have your rent lowered to 30% of your household income.

Support is given to low-income rental households whose income is below the established "income ceilings" which vary by household size and by areas within the province.

Please click here to view the income threshold and ceiling for specific household sizes.

Applicants are chosen based on demonstrated need. Applicants must also be in at least one of the following situations:

  • live in crowded or inadequate housing
  • you pay less than 30% of your household income for rent, but adequate housing in your area would cost 30% or more of your income
  • you pay 30% or more of your household income for rent, and adequate housing in your area would cost 30% or more of your income.
