Accessible Vehicle Funding can help you get or adapt a personal vehicle for accessibility. Adapting a vehicle could include installation of hand controls or modifying vans to have lifts and ramps.

The Accessible Vehicle Funding program:

  • provides up to $50,000;
  • funding is only available to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • individuals can apply for funding once every five (5) years (exceptions are assessed on an individual basis);
  • one (1) personal vehicle (owned or leased) per household may be adapted;
  • the applicant must not be eligible or have received funding for the same purpose under another government grant or program; and,
  • vehicles funded under this program may be purchased or retrofitted outside the province.

Your application submitted is reviewed and processed in the order (date and time) in which it is received. Your application is reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • How much your situation meets the funding objective;
  • How much your situation meets the stated eligibility requirement; and
  • How much funding is currently available

    • cable television
    • telephone
  • driver's license
  • vehicle registration or car insurance
  • membership in social or professional organization
