The Back to School Benefit is an annual payment provided to families at the start of the school year, to assist with the costs of school supplies for their school-aged dependants.

This annual benefit is automatically issued to eligible families and recipients, they will receive an payment of $100 per eligible dependant student in August and September before the start of school year.

To qualify for this benefit:

Families must be recipients of the Income Support benefits in August and/or September with school-aged dependents active on their file.

Recipients aged 18 to 21 who are also completing their high school education are also eligible to receive this benefit. They must submit verification of their enrollment for the upcoming school year.

Provincial Client Services Officers will automatically issue this benefit to the following:

  • Eligible families who receive Income Support benefits and have school-aged dependants on their file.
  • School-aged recipients between the ages 18 to 21, who submit a verification of enrollment for the upcoming school year.
