Education Incentive Program

Easy application

Tax filing not required

The NLHC’s Education Incentive Program:

  • Provides an eligible monthly incentive of $50 for each child and/or adult student or dependent attending high school or a post-secondary institution, which is double the $25 per student that used to be available
  • Eligible grades include grades seven through nine, in addition to high school (levels 1, 2, 3 or 4).
  • Eligible tenants will receive $50 for every month that each child and/or adult student is in school. This will be issued by cheque to the leaseholder.

If you have children in high school, payments will be made twice a year. NLHC starts accepting requests for payment at the end of the normal school terms, which would be January and June.

For those in post-secondary institutions, NLHC starts accepting requests for payment at the end of each semester. For example, at Memorial University, the semesters end in April, August and December.

Please note, payments can take eight (8) weeks.

You can get this program if you are an NLHC leaseholder with either a child or adult that is going to school in your household. There are two groups of eligible students:

  • A child or dependent attending grade seven through high school (levels 1, 2, 3, or 4)
  • An adult or dependent attending a post-secondary institution or enrolled in an Adult Basic Education Program.

Proof of school enrollment

For example:

Post-secondary student ID #, letter of acceptance, Post-secondary degree, Canada Student Loan, Provincial Student Loan.

NLHC will need a letter from the school for each child and/or adult stating the student was in full-time attendance and the exact date of the school term for which you are requesting the incentive funding.

Contact your Housing Administration Officer (HAO) to find out more.
