The Grant for Services and Equipment reduces barriers for post-secondary students living with disabilities. The grant is available to students even if you do not need financial help to pay for school.

The grant covers educational-related equipment costs students may have to remove barriers while attending post-secondary school, including but not limited to a computer or laptop, noise cancelling headphones, assistive software, such as voice recognition, screen readers, and screen magnifiers, Smart Pens, and FM systems for use with or without hearing aids.

You may also use this grant to help cover costs related to your studies, such as:

  • Tutor
  • Note-taker
  • Learning Strategist
  • Text to speech or voice dictation software
  • Technical aids

To be eligible, you must be:

  • have a permanent or persistent or prolonged disability as defined by the Government of Canada
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • be a resident of Nova Scotia (you're considered a resident if you have a Nova Scotia Health Card)
  • attend a post-secondary institution (university, community college or private career college)

Health card

For example:

  • valid health card with no photo, name and address
  • valid health card with photo, name and address
  • MCP (Medical Care Plan) number
  • Valid ambulance/dental services card
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour identification number
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour file number (Income Support Card).
