HST rebate on a computer for a person with disabilities

Easy application

Tax filing not required

If you bought a computer for use by a person with physical, vision or hearing impairments or mental challenges (this can include yourself) you can apply for an HST rebate up to $375 to help with the cost of modifying the computer for their use.

There is no cost to apply for the rebate.

The rebate is equal to the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) paid on a computer bought by or for a person with physical, vision or hearing impairments or mental challenges. The rebate only covers the tax paid on computer hardware, not software.

You could apply for the HST rebate if you bought a computer for use by a person with physical, vision or hearing impairments or mental challenges (this can include yourself).

You need to apply within 24 months of the date you bought the computer. Follow these three steps to apply for the HST rebate:

  1. Complete the HST rebate application.
  2. Check the application for details on all required supporting documents.
  3. Send your completed application and supporting documents by mail. Or visit the Business Registration Unit.

It should take 3 to 6 weeks to get the rebate. It can take longer if more information is needed or if your application hasn’t been filled in correctly.
