Dental health – Baby first year dental visit

Easy application

Tax filing not required

Baby’s first year dental visit is free at the Region of Waterloo Public Health Dental Clinics and is recommended by dentists and dental hygienists for children before their first birthday, or six months after the first tooth erupts.

Dentists and Dental Hygienists recommend children to be seen by a dental professional by their first birthday, or six months after the first tooth erupts to learn the importance of oral health and to start a positive relationship with a dental professional.

The Region of Waterloo Public Health Dental Clinics offer free first visits with a registered dental hygienist.

What can you expect from the visit?

  • A visual check of your baby's mouth while they lay in your arms
  • A conversation on how to reduce the risk of decay for your baby
  • A simple fluoride varnish application if needed
  • A toothbrush, sticker and other supplies
  • A quick and easy visit in a friendly environment

The Region of Waterloo Public Health Dental Clinics are happy to have your baby's first dental visit for all children residing in the Region of Waterloo under the age of 1 year.

Your child can be seen by their first birthday, or six months after the first tooth erupts.
