The Ontario Disability Support Program income support helps people with disabilities who are in financial need pay for living expenses like food and housing. It also provides health benefits like drug and dental coverage.

You may be able to get this benefit if you:

  • To qualify for ODSP income support, you must:
  • be at least 18 years of age. If you’re under 18, you can start the application process up to six months before your 18th birthday.
  • be an Ontario resident
  • have assets no greater than the limits set out in the program
  • be in financial need
  • meet the program’s definition of a person with a disability or be a member of a prescribed class

Health card

For example:

  • valid health card with no photo, name and address
  • valid health card with photo, name and address
  • MCP (Medical Care Plan) number
  • Valid ambulance/dental services card
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour identification number
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour file number (Income Support Card).

Proof of birth

A document with first name, last name, and date of birth. For example:

  • Birth certificate or birth registration
  • Hospital record of birth or record of the physician/nurse/midwife who attended the birth
  • Passport
  • Record of landing or confirmation of permanent residence issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Note of decision or temporary resident’s permit issued under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Certificate of Indian status card
  • Provincial identity card

Social Insurance Number

For example:

  • confirmation of SIN letter
  • plastic SIN card (non-expired)

If you are applying for Income Support, please note that there are two parts to the application process:

  • Part one looks at your financial situation.
  • Part two looks at your disability status.

After you complete your online application submission a caseworker from your local ODSP office will review your application and contact you within 15 business days to schedule an appointment.
