To get this benefit you need to first apply for the following benefit(s) if you're eligible:

The Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Nutritional Allowance helps individuals and families cover the cost of nutrition related expenses.

This allowance may provide you with:

  • $40 a month to assist with the costs of a regular diet or,
  • $50 a month to assist with the costs of a non-dairy diet if you are lactose intolerant.

If you receive the allowance while pregnant, you can continue receiving the allowance while breastfeeding until the baby reaches 12 months of age.

Contact your Social Service Worker at your local Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program office for more information.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program Income Support.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding an infant under the age of 12 months.

Apply for the Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Nutritional Allowance:

  • Contact your Social Service Worker at Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program and ask for the Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Nutritional Allowance form.
  • Ask any of the following healthcare professionals to fill out the form:
  • Your Family Doctor or Physician
  • A Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioner)
  • A Registered Dietitian
  • A Registered Midwife
  • A Traditional Aboriginal Midwife.
  • Submit the completed form to your local Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program office in person OR by mail.

Note:

  • Your form will be reviewed, and a letter will be sent to you if it is approved.
