The Remote First Nations Energy Efficiency Program (RFNEEP) provides support to remote First Nations communities to execute energy-efficiency projects in their homes and businesses.

Program Process

This program follows a two-step process:

  1. Free Energy Audit
    Businesses and homes on eligible First Nation reserves in Ontario can receive a free energy audit.

  2. Free Energy Saving Measures
    Audit results are assessed and qualifying homes and businesses receive free energy-saving measures to help manage usage and reduce costs.

Eligible Communities

Homes and businesses in the following remote First Nations communities in Ontario that meet the program eligibility requirements can participate in the program:

  • Bearskin Lake First Nation
  • Deer Lake First Nation
  • Kasabonika Lake First Nation
  • Keewaywin First Nation
  • Kingfisher Lake First Nation
  • Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug
  • Muskrat Dam First Nation
  • North Caribou Lake First Nation
  • North Spirit Lake First Nation
  • Pikangikum First Nation
  • Poplar Hill First Nation
  • Sachigo Lake First Nation
  • Sandy Lake First Nation
  • Wapekeka First Nation
  • Wawakapewin First Nation

Certificate of Indian Status

A document showing that you are registered as an Indian under the Indian Act. For example, a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (secure status card) or a Certificate of Indian Status (status card).

RFNEEP representatives will connect with the council and chiefs of eligible First Nations communities to confirm their participation in the program.
Upon confirmation, eligible households and businesses will be invited to sign up.

The IESO’s Indigenous Relations team will provide assistance throughout the application process.
