Sales Tax Credit

Easy application

Tax filing required

You do not need to apply for this benefit, but you need to file your tax return to get it.

The government will use the information in your tax return to decide if you will get the benefit.

The Sales Tax Credit is a tax-free payment to help low to moderate income individuals cover the cost of sales taxes you have paid each year.

The program provides a maximum annual credit of $345 for each adult and each child in a family. If you are a single individual with no children, the credit will be reduced by 4% of your adjusted net income over $26,535. If you are a single parent, or are married or living in a common-law relationship, the credit will be reduced by 4% of your adjusted family net income over $31,144.

At least one of the following must be true:

  • You are 19 years of age or older.
  • You are currently or previously married or in a common-law relationship.
  • You are a parent who lives or previously lived with your child.

If you submit your annual tax return, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will automatically determine whether or not you are eligible for this tax credit. If you are eligible, the CRA will send you a notice.

If you have any questions, please call the Province of Ontario’s tax office line: 1-866-668-8297.
