2026 Children's Summer Food Program

The 2026 Children’s Summer Food Program delivers seven nutritious frozen meals each week to school-aged children of families facing food insecurity. This program runs from July 8 to September 2, the program is dedicated to supporting households with demonstrated financial need, ensuring children have access to healthy meals all summer long.

Meals are produced locally and delivered to the address provided on the registration form. Each registered school-aged child will be provided with seven (7) frozen meals per week at no cost.

Deliveries are scheduled every Wednesday between July 8 and September 2, 2026. Registered families are required to have someone at the address provided between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on delivery days to accept the meals. Meals cannot be left unattended for food safety reasons. Please note there is no pick up option with this program.

Please note that drivers will not deliver food if they feel unsafe (e.g. hazards in the yard, unsecured animals on premises, etc.)

To be eligible for this program, children must be school-aged (Kindergarten to Grade 12, as of September 2026), and able to consume solid food.

This program is intended to support families in Prince Edward Island who are currently receiving financial support through the Social Assistance or Assured Income programs.

However, families that are not enrolled in these programs who are experiencing financial hardship, may complete a registration form.

Proof of  residency in Province/ Territory

For example:

  • lease agreement
  • rent receipt
  • household bill
    • gas
    • electricity
    • cable television
    • telephone

  • vehicle registration or car insurance
  • membership in social or professional organization
  • Other:
    • bank information
    • employment information

Proof of school enrollment

For example:

Post-secondary student ID #, letter of acceptance, Post-secondary degree, Canada Student Loan, Provincial Student Loan.

Proof of income

For example:

Pay stubs, pension statements (Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security), rental property income, income tax returns, income tax notice of assessment, business/rental/farming income, disability or veterans affairs pension, child and spousal support payments, GST credit.

Proof of primary responsibility for the care and upbringing of the child

For example:

  • a letter from the day care or school authorities indicating the child’s home address and contact information on file
  • a letter from a social worker, physician, a band council, or a resettlement officer stating that they have personal knowledge that the child lived with you for the period you indicated
  • a registration form or a receipt from an activity or club the child was enrolled in for the period you indicated
  • a court order, decree, or separation agreement that explains the type of custody arrangement you have (for example, shared custody) and clearly shows the living arrangements for the child
  • any other document showing that the child lived with you for the period you indicated

Health card

For example:

  • valid health card with no photo, name and address
  • valid health card with photo, name and address
  • MCP (Medical Care Plan) number
  • Valid ambulance/dental services card
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour identification number
  • Department of Immigration, Skills and Labour file number (Income Support Card).

To apply for the Children's Summer Food Program you will need the following:

  1. Name of parent or guardian who is applying
  2. Contact information for parent or guardian (phone number and email)
  3. Delivery address and special delivery instructions
  4. Number of school aged children in the home requiring meals
  5. Grade level of each child (as of September 2026)
  6. Personal Health Number (PHN) of each child
  7. Allergies or food sensitivities for each child (not dietary preferences)
  8. Financial information (client of Social Programs or household income amount)

Once you register for the Children’s Summer Food Program, you do not need to re-register each week. After you register your child(ren) you do not need to order meals. Meals are based on a set menu and specific ordering is not available.

To ensure you start receiving meals on July 8th, please register by June 30th. Families who register after July 14th will be eligible to begin receiving meals on August 5th.

Please note that registration for this program closes August 4th.
