The Island Essentials Benefit (IEB) is annual benefit to help eligible residents of Prince Edward Island with household expenses and costs.

This benefit will replace the provincial Sales Tax Credit and will be distributed to all eligible tax paying residents through Canada Revenue Agency. The IEB benefit is intended to help with rising costs of everyday essentials like gas, groceries and utilities.

To qualify for this benefit you must be:

  • at least 19 years old
  • a resident of Prince Edward Island
  • file an income tax return for 2025

Notice of Assessment

A statement from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to each taxpayer, every year, after you have filed a tax return. It tells you the amount of income tax you owe, or the amount of the refund you will get.

Prince Edward Island residents who are at least 19 years old and file an income tax return for 2025 will automatically receive the Island Essentials Benefit (IEB).

You will automatically be assessed for this benefit once you file your 2025 PEI income tax return and you will receive it according to your registered method with the Canada Revenue Agency.
