The Aim for Employment Program is a 12-month employment assistance program available to recipients of Social Assistance. Participants are initially assessed by an employment- assistance officer. Participants must follow and complete an individualized labour market entry plan which includes:

  • Job search activities
  • Skill-based training
  • Social skill training

Participation in this program is determined by your eligibility for Social Assistance.

Participants will receive the basic benefit amount $784 along with adjustment depending on their eligibility and work income.

The maximum allowable work income for this program is $200 for one adult and $300 for two adults. If the work income exceeds the allowable amount, additional amounts will be deducted from the monthly benefit.

Participants may also receive additional sums to their monthly benefit including:

Photo ID

For example:

  • driver’s license
  • passport
  • other government-issued photo ID, such as a non-driver photo ID (Saskatchewan), British Columbia Services Card, Ontario photo card, General identification card (Nunavut), Voluntary ID (PEI), etc.

Proof of birth

A document with first name, last name, and date of birth. For example:

  • Birth certificate or birth registration
  • Hospital record of birth or record of the physician/nurse/midwife who attended the birth
  • Passport
  • Record of landing or confirmation of permanent residence issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Note of decision or temporary resident’s permit issued under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Certificate of Indian status card
  • Provincial identity card

Proof of  residency in Province

For example:

  • lease agreement
  • rent receipt
  • household bill
    • gas
    • electricity
    • cable television
    • telephone
  • driver's license
  • vehicle registration or car insurance
  • membership in social or professional organization
  • Other:
    • bank information
    • employment information

Proof of legal status

A document showing citizenship or immigration status in Canada. For example:

  • citizenship certificate
  • confirmation document
  • record of landing, confirmation of permanent residence;
    • permanent resident card
    • visitor record
    • temporary resident permit
    • study permit
  • positive notice of decision
  • verification of status document
  • registration date with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada
  • passport
  • foreign passport

Social Insurance Number

For example:

  • confirmation of SIN letter
  • plastic SIN card (non-expired)
