Rural Electrification and Telecommunications (RET) Loan Program

Complex application

Tax filing not required

The Rural Electrification and Telecommunications (RET) Loan Program helps rural Yukon property owners get electrical, telephone and internet service to their home.

You can get a loan of up to 25% of the assessed value of the property, less any existing local improvements. The maximum funding for individuals is $50,000.

You are eligible for this program if:

  • You are a rural residential property owner whose property is outside Yukon municipalities.
  • Your property taxes are paid and up to date.
  • Your project is for a single-site connection, a group project, or an alternate energy system for private use.

You can email assessment.taxation@yukon.ca or phone 867-667-5268 or toll free in Yukon at 1-800-661-0408 extension 5268.

You will then have to fill out an application and submit it to a drop box at 308 Steele Street in Whitehorse, Yukon. The location is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You can also submit your application by email to assessment.taxation@yukon.ca or by mail to:
Government of Yukon
Property Assessment and Taxation (C-9)
Box 2703
Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 2C6

The Property Assessment and Taxation office will review your application. If you are approved, you must agree to the terms of payment and follow the project through to completion.

Once the project is complete, the Property Assessment and Taxation office will pay the invoices and enter into a local improvement charge agreement with the property owner. You will then see the local improvement charge on your annual property tax bill.
