Caring for a child

If you have a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, there are two different types of Autism Funding available: Preschool autism funding and School-age autism funding.

The Best Start Program can help you with more support during your child’s first three years. If you are having challenges, a Best Start worker can provide in-home support at no fee to you.

The Child Care Subsidy Program helps Islanders with the cost of child care and daycare services for children up to and including 12 year-olds.

Dental Health Services are available if you are living on a low income, for children including those with a cleft palate, and if you or a family member is living in a long-term care facility. To get the services, an active PEI Health Card is required.

The Family Health Benefit Drug Program may help cover the cost of approved prescription medications for you and your children if they are under the age of 19 or under the age of 25 and a full-time student.

If you are a dependent child under 25 and your parent is living with a disability or they die, you may be able to get a monthly payment from this benefit if your parent was getting Canada Pension Plan benefits. If you live in Quebec, you should refer to the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) instead, and contact Retraite Québec if you have any questions.

This benefit provides a monthly, tax-free benefit for families who care for a child under age 18 with a severe and prolonged physical or mental disability.

The Connecting Families Initiative assist eligible families get affordable monthly home internet package from $10 per month.
